6th-Nov-2008 10:13 am - Sometimes the majority is stupid.
Ya know, there was a time in this country when the majority of people would have voted in favor of slavery. When it comes to human rights and equality, the majority can go fuck themselves. EVERYone deserves equal rights - it shouldn't be up to a vote.

Or is it the hypocrisy? Doesn't matter - either way it makes me giggle.

Please please PLEASE let the father be Black! Ooo! Ooo! Even better, an IRAQI MUSLIM!!!! The sound of religious-right heads exploding simultaneously nationwide would be deafening!

A friend pointed me to this article. Interesting stuff.

6th-Sep-2007 10:43 am - iUnPhone?
So the "new" iPod is really just an iPhone, with the "phone" part yoinked from it?

Don't get me wrong - the iPhone touch interface is lovely and intuitive. And I'm sure the new device will have a strong following, and carve out a nice niche among people who want an iPhone (with real storage space), but still want to use their ol' motorola bag phone or whatever for making calls.

Personally, I'm a BIG fan of device convergence, so I am not Apple's target market for this new iPod. But then again, since I'm a cheap-bastard late-adopter, I've been outside their target market for quite awhile now. :)

I guess my point is, while the new iPod will probably continue to transfer loads of cash from the general populace to Apple, I don't think removing a feature from an existing device and renaming it really counts as "innovative" or "revolutionary". Certainly doesn't justify the pomp and circumstance it was given.
5th-Sep-2007 12:11 pm - Stuff
I'm not dead - just haven't posted to LJ in awhile. Here's a misc braindump of stuff:

Saw Stardust over the long weekend. Definitely worth a matinee price on the big screen. Michelle Phieffer is almost 50, and is still amazing - looks-wise and talent-wise. Far outshines Claire Danes (who is roughly 20 years her junior) on both fronts. DeNiro also does a great job in a fun role, tho he doesn't get a ton of screen time. In any case, it's a fun story.

Denis Leary ("Rescue Me") is also almost 50 (saw him on The Daily Show recently). Shit, if I look that good at 40, I'll consider myself ahead of the game.

We're in fast-cycle bugfix-before-release mode at work. So while I'm not working utterly crazy hours, the time is still pretty intense and stressful.

NFL kicks off tomorrow, and thus, FFL has kicked off over the last couple weeks. I'm playing in 2 leagues - in both cases I drafted OK. Nothing too great, but nothing too terrible either. We'll see how it goes.

WAY behind on my personal emails. I don't know how I keep digging myself into that hole, but it's definitely a persistent bad habit of mine. Should have some time to catch up this weekend.

Still playing World of Warcraft a lot. There's just something about Blizzard's game design, lore, storytelling, and characters that just suck me in for the long haul. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but the shit is like lightning in a bottle.

Played Bioshock on a friend's new XBox 360. Damn good game. Really freaky setting, and of course, very nice graphics. More details on that later if I play it myself (on the console, or on PC).
1st-Aug-2007 10:41 am - Good girls
From today's "quote of the day". Of course I couldn't help but think of all of you! :)

It's the good girls who keep diaries; the bad girls never have the time.

18th-Jul-2007 10:03 pm - TV Series?
I'm caught up with Battlestar Galactica and Arrested Development, and trying to figure out the next series I'll start up w/ Netflix. I'm leaning toward "24", but open to other suggestions. A few other ideas I had:

24, Lost, West Wing, The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Babylon5
11th-Jun-2007 11:16 am - Storyteller's responsibility?
Would love to hear from my writer/storyteller friends out there:

Does a storyteller have a responsibility to end their tale?

(and yes, this is a question directly born from the Soprano's series finale)
1st-Jun-2007 11:44 am - Weekend
Looking forward to the weekend. Nothing terribly big & exciting planned... probably see Spider-man 3, and my WoW guild has a 10-man run scheduled. (Yep, I still play a lot of WoW - found a good guild of older, friendly, casual players like me)

What I really should do (and have been putting off for weeks now), is start planning in earnest to replace the carpeting on the main level of the townhouse. It's something of a daunting task, since I haven't yet researched the type of flooring I want to use, or truly budgeted out what I can afford to spend on the project. Plus, I'm overwhelmed by all of the "other stuff" that will go along with it...

- Having to pack up all the dishes, liquor, etc from the dining room, so I can move out the shelves/cabinets there.
- Get help moving ALL the furniture down into the basement.
- Clean up the back yard and the rest of the place a little bit, so whichever friends I can con into helping me aren't mortified.
- And since I'm moving all the furniture out, I'd be crazy not to take that opportunity to do some much-needed re-painting...
- Which of course requires me to take the drapes down as well... which came with the house, are fairly ugly, and maybe I should just replace them now...

You get the idea. I read somewhere that smart, creative people are sometimes the worst procrastinators, since they're very effective at predicting all the difficulties with an upcoming project. Whereas people who don't know any better can just blindly plow in and get started. Meh - who knows.
Maybe you've seen this before, but I just received it from a friend. Probably the most surreal thing I've seen/read this month. Enjoy!
